Do you pay your electricity and gas by direct debit?
If you do, you could be overpaying every month for your utilities.
Go and get your most recent bills and have a look to see if the reading the utility company are using has been estimated. You will see a small E next to the reading if it is.
If your bills are being worked out on an estimated reading, they could be completely wrong, resulting in you overpaying or indeed underpaying for your gas and electricity.
Everytime a utility bill comes in, it is good practice to read the meter yourself and compare it to the reading on the bill. If the reading is different, simply call the number on your statement and advise your correct meter reading. A new bill will be posted out within a few days to allow you to pay the correct amount.
I have got into the habit of checking the bills each time they arrive and have saved hundreds of pounds. This can then be put into a savings account for a rainy day.
Better in your pocket than with the utility company.
